For my birthday this year, I decided to meet up with the nice folks of Toyota120.com for the 2nd annual Big Bear Braai. We headed out friday evening and met up with the group at Grey’s Peak campground just in time to enjoy round two of some Korean short ribs. Mmmmm. After some drinks and chatting by the campfire Gena and I headed to bed to enjoy our first night in the roof top tent. I think the tent exceeded out expectations by a lot. After a quick breakfast we headed for the first trail of the weekend - Holcomb Creek. The trail was scenic and had some nice technical spots. About 3/4’s of the way in we hit the first rock garden. 6 trucks went through with some good spotting and then it was my turn. After sliding slighly on a rock, I could tell I was hung up so I hoped out to see what I’m hung up on and what did I see? My tranny fluid puking all over the rock I was on. Not good. After getting the truck off the rock and to the side of the trail we found a cracked skid plate mount that looked repairable. The trail was busy enough that the 2nd group to pass us had everything we needed for the repair! After the fix (thanks James!) we sat and watched group after group cross the rock garden while waiting for Andries and Mark to get back with extra gear oil and patching products. After we were all back together, we returned to camp and then headed up to a nice lookout tower on Butler Peak for some sundowners. The next day, there were no leaks under my truck so I decided we were up for the Gold Mountain trail. After Gold Mountain, we said our goodbyes and headed home!
